To travel to Tanzania, the government recently introduced the e-Visa, or electronic visa, with the aim of simplifying procedures and obtaining a visa more quickly. What documents do I need to obtain an e-Visa? What is the procedure to follow?
What are the different visas available?
Among the e-Visas or electronic visas available for travel to Tanzania, it is possible to apply for :
- The classic visa: this is issued for a single entry into Tanzanian territory. It is valid for a maximum of 3 months and can be issued for holidays, leisure or any other activity legally recognised by the law of the United Republic of Tanzania. For more information on this visa, here.
- The multiple entry visa: if you have activities that require you to visit Tanzania several times, then this is the visa for you. However, it has a validity date of no more than one year. It is important to know that with this e-Visa, the holder must still leave the country at least once every three months.
- The transit visa: this is issued when you pass through Tanzanian territory when travelling to another country. It is only valid for a maximum of 7 days.
- The business visa: this visa is issued to workers travelling to Tanzania to carry out a special assignment..
What's the right approach?
The process is quick and easy. All you have to do is visit the official website set up by the Government of the Republic of Tanzania and fill in the application form online. Everything is done online, including the application and payment. So there's no need to queue up at the Tanzanian embassy in your country. You save time, and you can apply around 7 days before your trip.
To save time and make sure you don't make any mistakes in your application, you can go through a private agency.
What documents do I need to apply for an e-Visa for Tanzania?
It is also essential to bring together all the supporting documents that you absolutely must enclose with your visa application. For Tanzania, it's simple: you need to provide these documents:
- a copy of your valid passport (at least 6 months from the date of your return).
- a recent passport photograph, in colour and in a specific format.
- and a proof document for the type (plane tickets, hotel reservation, work, house, etc.)
The documents may vary depending on the type of visa you wish to obtain. For a business visa, you will also need :
- a letter of invitation from a partner correspondent on site in Tanzania,.
- a letter of assignment from the company hosting you in the territory describing the reason for your visit, your accommodation on site and full coverage of all your additional expenses during your stay.
