Europeans discover Tanzania with e-visa

The East African country of Tanzania is a popular destination for European travellers for its heavenly beaches, exceptional flora and fauna, as well as historical and cultural sites such as Zanzibar. To facilitate their arrival in this magnificent country, the government has set up an e-visa system, allowing Europeans to apply for their e-visa online before they leave.

The e-visa, a practical way to travel to Tanzania

The e-visa is an official document allowing foreign citizens to enter Tanzania for tourist, business or family stays. It is an alternative to obtaining a traditional visa from the embassy, as it can be applied for online from home.

For Europeans wishing to discover Tanzania, the e-visa greatly simplifies administrative procedures and offers a smoother, more enjoyable travel experience. All you have to do is fill in an online form and wait for the application to be approved before you can set off to discover Zanzibar and the country's other wonders.

How do I get an e-visa for Tanzania?

European citizens wishing to travel to Tanzania can apply for an e-visa by following a few simple steps:

  1. Visit the official Tanzanian government website or a specialist agency
Travellers can find all the information they need to obtain an e-visa on this site, as well as the application form to fill in.
  2. Fill in the online form carefully
Applicants must provide personal information (name, date of birth, nationality), passport details (number, date of issue, expiry date) and the reason for coming to Tanzania (tourism, business, family visit). You should also specify the length and dates of your planned stay, and the address of your accommodation in Tanzania.
N.B. : The information provided must be accurate and consistent with the passport details to avoid any problems when entering the country.
  3. Pay the application fee
The application fee can be paid online, by credit card only. The amount varies according to the applicant's nationality and the type of visa required (single entry, multiple entry).
  4. Wait for the application to be approved
Once you have submitted the form and paid the application fee, you must wait for your application to be approved by the Tanzanian authorities. The time taken to obtain an e-visa varies, but it is advisable to apply at least two weeks before the planned date of departure.
  5. Print your e-visa
When authorisation is granted, the applicant receives an e-mail with the e-visa attached. It is important to print out this document and present it to the local authorities on arrival in Tanzania, as well as during any checks carried out during the stay.

The advantages of an e-visa for Europeans travelling to Tanzania

The main advantage of the e-visa is that it is quick and easy to obtain. Travellers do not need to go to the Tanzanian embassy to submit their application, which makes the administrative process much easier.

What's more, the e-visa means that European citizens can avoid long queues at border crossings, as they can present their e-visa directly to control officers to enter the country.

Finally, the e-visa offers a degree of flexibility, as it is possible to change the information provided on the application form until it has been approved by the authorities. So if there is a change in the programme before departure, travellers can adapt their application accordingly.
