How long does it take to obtain a Tanzanian e-Visa?

Tanzania is a destination that attracts many travellers. However, to stay in the land of Mount Kilimanjaro, you need a visa. Previously, only the classic visa was eligible. Now you can get an e-Visa. How do I obtain a Tanzania e-Visa?

Whether you want to visit the wonders of Tanzania or stay on the Zanzibar archipelago, a simple electronic visa is all you need. This option has been available to foreigners since 26 November 2018. There are two ways to apply for an eVisa to enter Tanzania:

By the immigration services

As a digital tool, the authorities have set up a portal to receive e-visa applications. Simply log on to the official website. Select the form and fill it in. Then pay the visa fee and submit the completed form. The immigration authorities will process your application internally.

Using the services of an agency

Going through a company specialising in issuing electronic visas is the other alternative for drawing up your electronic entry visa for Tanzania. The form is often simpler and the assistance proactive.

Documents required to obtain a Tanzanian e-Visa

To obtain a Tanzanian e-visa, you must provide the following documents:

  • A passport: It must still be valid, at least 6 months after your arrival on Tanzanian soil. As the e-visa application is made online, you will need to make a colour scan of the passport page. This should provide information such as the passport number, date and place of birth, etc.
  • A identity photograph: It must be recent and resemble the one in the passport. The scan must be in colour and in high definition.
  • The plane ticket: This serves as proof. If you're not flying, you can send your train ticket.

Other documents can also be used as proof: hotel reservations, proof of mission or work, etc.

The price, time taken to obtain and validity of a Tanzanian e-Visa

The Tanzanian electronic visa starts at 47 € for consular fees. When you make the payment and validate the form, your application is automatically processed. Upon validation, you will be given a number. This allows you to track the progress of your application. In general, it takes a minimum of 7 days to obtain a visa. As soon as the document is ready, you will be informed by e-mail.

However, it may take longer if you have not complied with the recommendations for the documents you need to provide. The Tanzanian authorities may also ask you to go to the consulate or embassy for an interview. This will also delay the time taken to obtain your e-Visa. The Tourism e-Visa is valid for 90 days.
